Project Management
Previously, we have undertaken project management
on behalf of larger organisations and Universities (though this no
longer forms part of our core work). Below are examples of some of the
projects we have managed and delivered.
Extending Education and Career
Opportunities for the Deaf community with particular reference to
developing generic and subject specific language skills
This project was managed on behalf of the
University of Wolverhampton and funded by the DfES Innovations Fund. It
briefly comprised:
Our role was to manage the technical as well as
content development of the projects, overseeing the web development
company, researchers and contributors.
SignsOnline: Two British Sign Language (BSL)/English glossaries for
Science and Engineering Education

University of Wolverhampton and funded by the Higher Education Funding
Council for England.
The online glossaries can be seen at:
Our role was as principal researchers for the BSL
signs, overseeing the technical development of the sites and directing
the filming shoot.
BSL/English Glossary for ICT
We have recently developed a new glossary for
information communications technology, funded by the DfES Standards
Unit. See: http://www.qiaresources4ict.net/
University of Leeds Regional
Transcription Centre
Direct Learn investigated the feasibility of
extending provision of transcription for blind and visually impaired
students to other universities in the Yorkshire and the Humber region.
University of Leeds Equality Unit web site
The University's Equality
Unit needed an accessible web site, which would be useable
not only by visitors, but also by staff who would have to update the
site. Direct Learn managed the procurement and implementation on the
site, as well as organising and authoring some of its content.
